Independence Day Arts and Crafts

We are helping little artists create Independence Day art, one craft project at a time. This week we are beginning to decorate the house for Independence Day.  We are thinking all things red, white, and blue.

Wall Hanging

4th of July Craft ProjectYour little artists can make their own flag-inspired wall hangings. We used construction paper, crepe paper streamers, felt stars, and a little glue.

We found these fun felt star stickers online.  (Find them here.) They were easy to use and added a nice dimension to this wall hanging. We can’t wait to play more with these. Maybe we can use them to make our own stamps!

Have fun picking a great spot to display your patriotism.  We hung ours on the front door. As the breeze blows, the streamers dance in the wind. It’s sure to add some beauty to your holiday celebration.

Eagle

Eagle Craft ProjectLet your little artist’s imagination soar as high as the eagles with this project.

We used a reverse sponge painting technique to create this eagle. Prep for this project by cutting out the stencil. (Pattern available here.) Place the stencil onto blue paper, and hold firm. Have you artist sponge paint around the eagle. When done, pull the stencil up to reveal the finished art.

Reverse painting has become one of our favorite project techniques.

Windsock

4th of July Craft ProjectThis Independence Day craft is designed after ‘Old Glory’. It’s sure to be almost as beautiful, blowing in the wind.

Your little artists can use the same easy felt star stickers as in the wall hanging project. Let them  place the stars however they choose. They can use a few or all fifty. It is a great opportunity to teach them about how many stars are on the United States Flag, and what they represent.

Then glue strips of red and white streamers onto the wide side of the paper. You can make the streamers as long as you would like.

We hope you enjoy decorating for your Independence Day party with these fun crafts, because we know, “You’re so creative!”
