Easy Summer Olympic Crafts for Children and Preschoolers

Summer Olympic Crafts

We are getting ready to cheer on our favorite teams in the 2021 Summer Olympics. Everyone has their favorite sport. Some like football/ soccer while others love tennis, but mine is always the opening ceremonies. There is something about the excitement and of course, the artistic interpretations of the hosting country.

We have been busy here putting together a few of our favorite summer Olympic crafts for kids. In today’s newsletter, we are sharing a few crafts about items you might see while watching the summer Olympics. In our first craft, we are making the Olympic rings. Every color in the five rings represents at least one color from every participating countries flag.

Your little artist might like this fun flag fact: Nepal is the only country without a rectangular flag.

Our next craft is based on what every Olympian hopes to win, a gold medal. This is a fun craft to make if you are hosting your own mini Olympics. You can make your own medals in gold, silver, and bronze to give away to the winners. Little artists have fun learning about first, second, and third places with these visual markers.

We also have a large sports theme category if your little artist would like to make an Olympic sports themed craft. To visit this theme with twenty projects please visit HERE.

The Olympics are also a great opportunity to sneak in a little social studies. I always like to include a little cultural study about the hosting country. Maybe have some food from that country or learn how to say ‘thank you’ in the native language. With this year’s host being Japan we are enjoying sushi and practicing saying,’ Domo arigato’ (If you grew up in the 1980’s you might have learned to say thank you in Japanese by listening to the Styx song, ‘Mr. Roboto.’)

If you would like to make a few crafts about Japan I recommend checking out our Asia theme category. We have almost 50 crafts available. Well, not all are about Japan but a few might be fun to create. Please visit HERE for more information.

How every you choose to spend your summer we hope you have fun making memories and summer Olympic crafts. We know you won’t forget to tell your little artists, ‘You’re so creative!”
