Luau Crafts

With summer right around the corner, we thought what a perfect time to share some luau crafts. Your little artist might ask what is a luau? It is a Polynesian party with food and entertainment. In today’s newsletter, we are helping your little artist to make crafts about items they may see if they went to a luau.

When you arrive at any event in the islands you will be greeted with a warm smile and a lei. In our first craft we are refining our small motor skills by making a paper chain and adding flowers, Click the image below to print and make this project.

A good party almost always has good food. While our first Polynesian food craft might not be recognized by many mainlanders you can find this all over the island, it is Laulau. Think of it as pork barbeque wrapped in leaves and cooked. To make this craft project click the image below.

This next food inspired luau craft might be more recognizable, the pineapple. Most people are surprised to learn that the pineapple does not grow on a tree. They grow on a bush type plant on the ground. In this project, we have fun learning a new painting technique to give this pineapple its frons. (The green leaf part.)

Next, we are making a decoration for our Luau. If your little artist has watched Moana you might recognize Maui’s hook. We use celery sticks to decorate our own hooks. While some crafts require some help this craft allows your little artist the freedom to decorate. Click the image to print the free pattern.
