International Dragon Day

January 16th is International Dragon Day. We all love these mythical beasts, and we love making our own dragons. We decided to share three of our favorites.

Paint-able Dragon Craft Project

You can paint and add cotton ‘smoke’ to make this dragon wall art.

Supplies:

  1. White card stock
  2. Sponges
  3. Small paper plate
  4. Green glitter paint or metallic green paint
  5. Cotton balls
  6. Glue

Directions:

  1. Print dragon pattern onto card stock.
  2. Pour a small amount of green paint onto small paper plate.
  3. Dip sponge into paint and sponge paint dragon.
  4. When the dragon is dry, pull apart cotton balls.
  5. Glue cotton onto dragon to look like smoke.

Option- Instead of sponge painting, paint with bubble wrap to create the look of scales.

Dragon Headdress

Most Children love to play pretend. In this next project, your little artist can make and wear this Dragon Headdress and pretend to be a dragon!

Dragon Headdress

Supplies:

  1. Copy of dragon
  2. Markers
  3. Strip of Red construction paper
  4. Glue stick
  5. Scissors

Directions:

  1. Print dragon’s head.
  2. Color.
  3. Cut out.
  4. Cut a paper strip long enough to fit around child’s head.
  5. Glue dragon head onto strip of paper.
  6. Allow to dry, and wear.

Dragon Craft Project

This next Dragon Craft Project is made out of items most of us have around the house: paper plates. Just make sure the paper plates are uncoated. If they aren’t, they will not absorb the paint and will create a big mess. We do not want messes; we want memories!

Supplies:

  1. Copy of dragon
  2. Uncoated paper plate
  3. Bingo dauber
  4. Scissors
  5. Glue stick

Directions:

  1. Print copy of dragon.
  2. Cut paper plate in half.
  3. Use bingo dauber to paint dragon and paper plate.
  4. Glue plate onto dragon to make a body.

We really hope you and your little artist had fun learning that there is an International Dragon Day and making one or all of these fun dragons. We know you will be sure to tell your little one, “You’re so creative!”
